Manure Information/Handling

Schieffert Farms owns barns northwest of Sleepy Eye and custom finishes hogs. Each barn hold 1000 head of hogs that start out at 30 pounds and leave the barns around 280 pounds. Each barn produces about 400,000 gallons of liquid hog manure per year. This manure is very high in nutrient content and is applied as fertilizer on a portion of Schiefferts farmland (both owned and rented). Tim and Dave, through careful soil testing, know where manure is needed on each field. Using liquid manure as a fertilizer has many benefits over commercial fertilizer and typically results in higher yield potential. Schiefferts feel that manure is valuable and should only be applied where needed and at appropriate rates as well. The field unit has the capability of using variable rates. This lets you set application rates and keeps the rate consistant.

Schieffert Farms offers a full line of equipment for all of your manure needs. The equipment consists of pumps and tractors for agitation and loading, trucks for transporting, and a field application unit that is equipped with a flow meter to assure extremely accurate application rates.
